With chauffeur drive you get the vehicle and a driver who knows the roads. For most visitors this is the more sensible option: Malawian roads are shared with minibuses, cyclists and livestock, junctions are not always signposted, and driving after dark is genuinely demanding.

It also removes the small frictions that eat a working day — finding parking in Blantyre, working out which road is passable in the rains, or getting to a lodge whose turnoff is unmarked.
