Self Drive Car Hire

Hire any vehicle in the fleet and drive it yourself — collected from our desk inside the airport terminal.

Self drive is the simplest arrangement we offer: you hire the vehicle, you keep the keys, and you go where you like for as long as you have booked it. No driver, no schedule, no waiting for someone to come and collect you.

Collection is from our staffed desk inside Chileka International Airport, which means you can land, clear the terminal and be on the road without a separate trip into town to pick up a car. Send your flight number when you book and we will confirm the desk is expecting you.

Every vehicle in the fleet is available for self drive, from the Honda Fit for economical city driving up to the Hilux double cab for work in the districts. Which vehicle suits you depends mostly on where you are going and how many of you there are — tell us and we will say honestly which one to take.

These are the questions every self-drive customer asks. Where a figure is still being confirmed with the owners we say so rather than print a number that changes at the counter — call or message and we will give you the current answer.

Requirement	Detail
Security deposit	No security deposit. The full hire amount is payable before collection, and we vet every client before a vehicle is released. Terms and conditions apply.
Minimum driver age	21 years.
Licence required	Malawian licence, foreign licence or International Driving Permit — all accepted. Must have been held for at least one year.
Damage liability	Under standard cover the hirer is responsible for 100% of damage to the hired vehicle. Additional cover can be purchased at the time of booking, under which the insurer meets 70% and the hirer meets the remaining 30%.
Fuel policy	Full tank out, full tank back. Return the vehicle refuelled to the level you collected it at.
Mileage allowance	Unlimited within town. Journeys outside town are agreed in advance, based on the distance and the length of hire.
Cross-border travel	Travel into Zambia, Mozambique or Tanzania is possible by prior arrangement, and only with a company driver. Cross-border travel is not available on self-drive hire.
Late return	A late return is charged as a full additional day.
