If you want a receipt, or a company to call back, that is the distinction that matters.

It is also the honest first question to ask before hiring a car at all. If you need two or three journeys in a week, a taxi costs less than a day of car hire. If you need to move every day, it does not — and you are already talking to the people who hire the cars, so we will say which way round it falls for your trip rather than quietly booking you the more expensive one.
